At an instance, I asked for the capitalisation of a username to be modified. However, I’ve been informed that:
The new suggested name is invalid as already taken, because by default Discourse treats usernames differing only by case or dots as equal.
Although moderators (and users, if permitted) are able to modify their usernames, I’ve no registrations at instances which permit this, likely because of disadvantages similar to those described at t/62451/6 , so I am unable to confirm. However, at least that disadvantage shouldn’t apply to this type of rename, so should it be permissible?
At t/164553 , I see that Discourse appears to treat usernames in a case-insensitive manner, but definitely retains the original case.
If relevant, this is a popular request elsewhere:

### Pitch
It should be possible to be able to adjust the capitalization (or c… ase) of the letters in your username after it's created.
### Motivation
This is something that is offered by other services. It's currently not ideal that once you've made a username, you're stuck with it. Maybe you've decided that you want to go with a capital first letter (or initials) rather than lowercase, or the other way around.
This offers people choice and flexibility when it comes to how they would like to be represented, and makes the format of the username they signed up with not a permanent and irreversible choice since they own that whole username regardless of how it's formatted and should be free to adjust it.

Perhaps ignore, for it appears to be possible:
Ah! That was easy, done. Your username simply exceeded the maximum length. We removed that restriction when importing accounts from AskBot, and AFAIK it’s not enforced for new SSO accounts, but apparently renames are validated differently.
I’d still appreciate an explicit confirmation, if anyone desires to.
