Hi Discourse community!
I discovered this place today. I’m confused about the pricing of Discourse software… I mean, am I able to buy Discourse or, am I just forced to pay the “cloud” pricing?

Discourse is 100% free, open source forum software. You can download it and install on your own server by following our install guide: discourse/docs/INSTALL-cloud.md at main · discourse/discourse · GitHub. Plenty of people do that, and we provide community support here on Meta.
We (discourse.org) also sell fully managed hosting plans, which are great if you don’t want to maintain a server yourself.
Not an official Discourse meta community, but I’m sure there are plenty of 
communities out there using Discourse!

I mean, I noticed that Discourse software is so good, I love its natural flow of things.
If so, how do updates work? Is there a team that releases updates?
that’s us at discourse.org. The version of Discourse core available for free is exactly the same one that we provide paid hosting for.
