Improve user search function in chat

A quick feedback on using the chat: the process for contacting someone (going through the “+” in the discussion section) lacks a bit of clarity. It would be great to be able to search for a user directly in the chat search bar, like we do for messages. That would save valuable time! This is just my personal opinion, but I think many people would benefit from a more comfortable experience.

Not that you’re wrong, but do you know about the cmd+k shortcut to open the chat search bar?

Looks like

(Composer needs to be closed or minimised, otherwise the shortcut will be hijacked for something else)

While I am fully aware of the effectiveness of keyboard shortcuts, my feedback primarily concerns the experience of less experienced users. These users may perceive the increase in required actions as a burden if they are not visually intuitive.

Furthermore, it is essential to keep in mind usage on tablets and mobile devices, where shortcuts are not usable. Far from intending to criticize the excellent work that has been done, my goal is simply to explore ways to streamline the user experience, regardless of the device or the user’s technical proficiency.

Although it is a valid option I opt to not use keyboard shortcuts more than my own defined (deliberately chosen) ones in KDE in order to keep simplicity.

I wish to disable the Discourse shortcuts, as our users do not use them.
