Is there an easy way to change the bottom bar colour on android phones. Currently on dark palletes its white and the controls are also very light so hard to see.
No repro with Chrome:
Could you share a bit more detail so we can look into this properly? Specifically:
- which smartphone model are you using?
- which Android version is it running?
- which browser (and version) are you using to access the site?
- are you using the PWA, or perhaps the DiscourseHub app?
Hello
I think that’s because your device is not in dark mode. The bottom navigation bar is a native Android element, and Discourse doesn’t modify it, so its color matches your device settings.
Discourse works in the chrome browser actually and does use rhe colours from the pallette. Its just the pwa that it doesnt work on
Are you sure about that?
Switching light/dark theme properly changes the navigation bar color on my Galaxy S23.
It isnt mate it uses a colour from the theme or what the website tells it too.
Just done a test and it indeed uses the palettes background colour to change the bottom bar. The pwa is the issue on any discourse sites i use
As Don said, your device is configured to light mode, not dark mode. However, the problem you reported seems to only occur when using the PWA, while it does not occur when accessing the forum in dark mode via a browser.
It doesnt matter if its set to light or dark on any other website or app i use though as it uses the colours defined by the website or app.
The issue only occurs in the PWA because Android determines the system bar colors based on the site’s manifest
file, not on the page’s theme or CSS.
On your hosted site, there is no way for customers to change this. The manifest
must be served from the site’s root domain. Any attempts to load a custom manifest from an external source, or to inject it via a theme or JS, are blocked by the site’s Content Security Policy, so they will not work.
Changing the PWA’s system bar color is not something that can be done on your side.
So your saying the pwa is useless? Because its impossible to see the back button and buttons at the bottom.
Also if this is the case how come the top of screen schanges to the propper colours where the clock is and signal etc? Surely if that changes colour the manifest can indeed do it?
Honestly, I don’t know why your buttons are so light. I don’t have this problem on my S Ultra 22.
In any case, I will open an internal discussion on this matter, since we are currently working on color schemes.
Can you try installing the pwa here
Out of curiosity: which variable did you change in the colour palette?
Its only on Discoure they are like this. Any other site is fine.
Interesting enough, when installing the PWA on IOS, I don’t have a bottom bar at all… Think there is some customisation going on here?
The secondary colour. I can change the colour of the bar easily and the top bit
