Curious about a variation of /latest which will display all topics and private messages at the same time. Anyone done anything like this?

I share the same interest - like a kind of unified inbox. I wonder how hard it would be to create.

Yes. Specifically:
- Topics
- Notifications from /my/notifications
- Messages from /my/messages
There are no plans to implement this in core.
Those are different endpoints in Discourse.
What you’re asking for can be done in a theme component, but it would be very, very inefficient. You’ll need a plugin for this.
If you really need this functionality, I suggest creating a topic in the marketplace category.
