I see in the nicely-done Overview of Features in Discourse Chat that admins and mods have at least one extended permission in chat:

Admins and relevant moderators will be able to expand and see your deleted messages until the retention period (90 days) expires.

Are there any other new permissions related to chat? Thanks!

Hi @NiceOldGuy I don’t think anything new but there is some key information in this topic here about the channels feature and how it relates to categories and groups permissions in some recent changes.

Introducing default chat channels (automatically add users)

We merged the following pull requests which should address this issue: Initially, we had planned to allow read-only users to preview chat channels, but designing the user experience for that turned out to be a bit more complicated than we originally anticipated, so we removed that feature for now in the name of simplicity. I think in most cases the abilities in Chat mirror the abilities Mods and Admins have across the whole forum (the ability to view deleted topics and posts, for instance).

Though I think now Chat is bundled in with core, it may be worth displaying that section a little differently, and giving it a double-check to see if there’s anything you would/wouldn’t expect that could be added.
