It would be great if there was a small text / tag field to identify manually performed backups. So that we can put small remarks like “executed before X plugin installation”

I sometimes rename the backup accordingly. Just change the first part, though. The name have version info in it.

But I thought the filename (since it has information / meta data) could not be modified. So can I change the first part (or end) of the name, as long as I keep the date/time/version information in some position?

As long as you leave the stuff starting with the year intact you’ll be safe.
