Discourse recently held its 2025 Prague Meetup, bringing together 87 team members from 22 countries for a week of connection, collaboration, and celebration. Described as “chaotic, wholesome, and inspiring,” the event reaffirmed the company’s belief that in-person gatherings are essential for building deep, lasting relationships beyond asynchronous digital communication. The week included structured activities — executive presentations, workshops, and team collaboration — alongside spontaneous highlights like Charlie’s late-night pool tournament, a surprise traditional Czech dinner, karaoke, trivia, and sightseeing. The meetup also featured the first-ever Q&A with executives, now a permanent fixture. Attendees praised the event’s energy and camaraderie, with SubStrider expressing surprise at the team’s size, and Richie suggesting future open events for community admins. Tris20 applauded Discourse’s strategic focus on becoming the community platform for tech companies, citing its impact on asynchronous communication and documentation. Others, like eisammy, highlighted the team’s diversity, while putty enjoyed spotting familiar faces in group photos. The event reinforced Discourse’s core value: that human connection — both online and offline — is foundational to meaningful collaboration and innovation.
If you’re open to suggestions, how about making the last day of the week long meetup an open event where discourse admins from around the world could come along and share a beer with the team?
Yes yes yes! You guys lead the way at making asynchronous problem solving easier. I’m delighted to see a stronger focus on the part of the market you’re already dominating (just look at the GitLab, Grafana, OpenAI, and Docker forums).
It has long been my view that improving communication across siloed and fractured departments as well as plugging gaps in documentation by treating conversation as documentation can have a huge impact on technology breakthroughs and the quality of future products.
