A discussion about receiving updates on major Discourse releases is underway. sigurdur didn’t receive an email about Discourse 1.0 stable and is looking for a “public announcement” mailing list. codinghorror suggests following the Twitter account for updates. sam proposes creating an announcements category on the forum, but codinghorror thinks Twitter is sufficient.
sigurdur expresses concerns about relying on Twitter, which he doesn’t check as often as his email. codinghorror mentions that instance emails should notify users of major releases. downey notes that major releases are typically announced in the project’s primary communication channels.
codinghorror mentions that a releases category on the forum is likely to be created in the future. TheJames shares his approach of using a blog category for announcements and an IFTTT rule to compose tweets.
Cool, thanks Jeff.
I checked the twitter account and saw that there is more on it than just public announcements .. AND I don’t check twitter as much as my e-mail.
It’s generally standard practice in the FOSS world to announce major releases (and what’s new) in the medium/media where users as well as contributors regularly communicate about the project.
For Discourse, that’d probably be here and the (unofficial?) IRC channel.
