Bluesky thumbnails

Suggestion

A couple tags might be helpful: Config or Settings and Branding restricted to the appropriate cat(s)

I first noticed how Bluesky was handling thumbnails months ago when starting the Repeal OBBBA effort. I monkeyed with images used in admin/site_settings/category/branding but no joy. Other sites: X, Facebook, Reddit, Discord, mastodon all generated the thumbnail just fine so eventually I set the issue aside assuming it was one of the Bluesky quirks.

Same Discourse links on Bluesky and the other place.

I posted the issue on Bluesky using numerous Discourse instances to test things. Pretty much confirms the issue is on the Discourse side of things.
@pfaffman and @angus I posted links to your sites, please let me know if you would like the post removed.
Testing Bluesky post feel free to pile on.

I am hoping folks can help me sort what image needs to be added to Discourse to get very cool thumbnails on Bluesky.

I have a stock site that has no additional Branding beyond the initial build. Maybe someone can send an appropriate image example and tell me where to place it.

The OpenGraph image setting should do it, here’s how ours is configured for Meta, to reflect what you’re seeing in posts

Thanks @awesomerobot

What size and type is your OpenGraph image?

I am trying different sizes but no change so far.
Results so far: @phillipnhenry.bsky.social on Bluesky

It’s a 2400 × 1260 JPEG, which is double the 1200x630 recommend (helps cover devices with 2x pixel density).

I believe most social networks will cache open graph images, so changes may not appear immediately.

I changed to something larger that I had handy (a favorite). tried on two sites and the change with Bluesky post thumbnails was immediate so no apparent caching.

OpenGraph image → 1500x500 jpeg

Thanks again @awesomerobot marking as solved.
