Bulk archiving messages does not show until page refresh

Part of my moderator flow here on meta is to review the automatic messages that appear in the moderators inbox and archive the ones that do not require action.

There seems to be a small UX issue with bulk actions that I find confusing and inconvenient. Selecting messages and then choosing “Archive” from the bulk actions pulldown works, but you still see all the messages you just archived. Only when I click away and come back to the moderators inbox, or refresh the page in my web browser, do I see that the messages have successfully been archived.

I’d expect the page to refresh automatically and correctly show just the messages that are still in the inbox.

I can’t reproduce this anymore :thinking: Looks like this has been fixed accidentally while improving bulk actions?!

@tobiaseigen can you still reproduce?

This used to be especially annoying when I was moderator here, and reviewed/archived messages in the moderators inbox. I liked being able to do it to see if members were writing to us or replying to their welcome messages, but the vast majority of messages could just immediately be archived and there could be dozens of them accumulating over a few days!

I just tested on my personal site where I had alot of messages in the inbox that could be archived. It refreshes immediately if I am just archiving one message, but if I am archiving lots of messages it still does not refresh immediately. Maybe it has to do with what happens when you scroll down and more messages are autoloaded?

I tested with a handful and it always worked :thinking:

Will try with an armful :sweat_smile:
