Bulk user deletion for staff now available

We’ve added a new administrative feature that allows staff to bulk select and delete multiple user accounts directly from the admin users list. We saw communities undergo large spam waves, so we implemented this feature to make handling those spam waves easier.

This feature works in a very similar fashion to bulk actions in topic lists. We’ve published a dedicated document that explains how to use it:

Great to see some attention being given to bulk managment of a discourse user base, it’s a long time coming and needed. :+1:

Is there a plan to add more bulk options?

for example

  • Bulk De-Activate
  • Bulk Add-to-group

Large and long in the tooth userbases can have users who have not logged in for over a decade numbering the 1000’s, in some scenarios there is a value to keep for bulk management runs, so instead of deleting, a mass de-activation here would be more appropriate.

For example, I’m vibing off current user case based on this predicament here as I’d like to de-activate a ton of users so they are not triggering email alerts, but then in another use case, I might want to try target dormant accounts to try force mass re-activate to a ton of sleepers maybe to try lift user vibrancy and increase engagement out of the gutter!

Also a filter option to display user accounts by date-of-join, would by really helpful when wading through large userbases. I suppose requiring a date-of-join column, which leads me to another feature idea as I type.

EDIT: Sorry I forgot about the “created” column, if you could filter using the “created” timestamp using a period or date-range is what I mean.

Auto-Bulk management tools

  • add user bases into group by year from x date range. The net result is say 10 new year labeled groups from 2015 - 2005. I could use that feature right now

However, even having date-of-join filter and the right bulk command would still be a very quick and easy workflow. I’m just getting a little ahead of myself her.e

Anything and everything that helps bulk manage the user base is welcome!
