I’m trying to build a community like reddit, but with discourse features.
Can I post topics that redirect to other URLs ?
Thanks
The discussion revolves around whether Discourse allows posting outgoing URLs, similar to Reddit. Aymane_Shuichi is considering Discourse for their community platform and wants to know if topics can redirect to external URLs. jomaxro explains that this is not a feature of Discourse, as it goes against the goal of encouraging conversation and dialog within the platform.
Aymane_Shuichi decides to adapt their product to Discourse instead. watchmanmonitor suggests using the Permalinks feature, but Aymane_Shuichi clarifies that they want to send users to another website. watchmanmonitor mentions the “External URL” option, but Aymane_Shuichi reiterates their desire for a Reddit-like link posting feature. Mittineague points out that this topic has been discussed before, sharing a relevant link to the Discourse Meta forum.

No. That is not how Discourse works at the moment (nor do I believe there are any plans to do so). Discourse is about encouraging conversation and dialog…having a topic that redirects solely to an external page defeats this goal. Additionally, there is no interface to get into the topics comments if the link goes somewhere else. Unlike reddit there is no comments button below each topic,
I see, it’s just that I’m in the middle of choosing the right platform for my next product.
I’m in love with Discourse, and I think I will adapt my product instead.
Thanks
No, I was looking for actually sending you to another website.
The “External URL” option offers what I think you’re asking for. Maybe post a more distinct example of your goal?
It’s basically like reddit. You can post links instead of topics.
