Cannot find Daily Summary topics except via direct link

Here on Meta, I cannot find the Daily Summary topics. I have them muted, as well as the whole Site feedback > Forum summaries category. The only unmuted topic is the Weekly Summary (but I don’t see that since the whole category is muted).

However, navigating to Site feedback > Forum summaries shows only the Weekly Summary topic, not the Daily Summary ones. How then can one access these topics besides a direct link?

Looks like you have muted the topic. Can you see it in its category after you have changed the tracking level to normal?

I think the category is muted by default, so it’s expected that you can only find it via link or at the categories page

Setting it to Normal makes it appear again, but it’s not very clear that that’s the solution. In fact, there’s no indication that I can see that tells the user they have topics in that category that are muted.

I think that’s somehow the idea of muted topics. You chose that you don’t want to see that topic. While a muted category still appears below the list of categories, a muted topic is only accessible with https://meta.discourse.org/?state=muted. My muted topics are related to a topic that is likely to trigger me, so these topics being invisible for me is what I want. Why did you mute the topic?

Interestingly, going to that page brings up no topics:

I felt there was no practical purpose to see my “rankings” for the day/week, that it might encourage competition, so I chose not to view it.

I think the reason why you don’t see it there is the combination of the category mute and the topic mute.

Do you want to keep both? I think usually one of them is enough. Either you can have the topic level to be “normal” and the muted category hides the topic from topic lists, or you don’t mute the category but the individual topic in it you aren’t interested in.
I think a muted topic prevents notifications in cases like, for example, @mentions, while if only the category is muted you can still receive notifications about individual topics. That was a problem when the summaries were tested and used @mentions. But this has been changed for some time, so I think you no longer need a double mute.

But I agree that it should be possible to find muted topics in muted categories. Muted categories should not hide topics from this list created by the state=muted query string or the in:muted filter
