I mean when a user opens a chat channel it goes full-size without them having to click that. have all chats open full-size by default.

Once you expand once as explained in post above, this preference will be stored and become the default.

And after that every ipad users will dislike you, because they have to use sidebar or minimize chat window to jump around channels
