I think the Subscriptions plugin only works for existing forum members.
Is there any way to combine the forum registration process and the subscription payment process into one step?
There is not. It is an extra step for getting their money that adds friction.
Use registration requires validation of their email address. I suppose maybe you could accept their payment and then just hope that they validated the email address?
