Configure which groups see another group
/PeakProsperity is looking for a plugin or alternative solution to limit a group’s visibility to only members of a specific group. Currently, the available options do not include this functionality.
/PeakProsperity’s use case involves two primary user groups: Non-paying users and Paying members, as well as user-driven secondary groups. They want to restrict access to the secondary groups to only Paying members.
/pfaffman suggests that a CSS solution could potentially hide the groups from non-Paying members, but notes that a plugin would be required for more robust enforcement. Alternatively, /pfaffman proposes using categories controlled by the Pay group to restrict access.
/PeakProsperity clarifies that they aim to create Facebook-style groups with sub-forums, chats, and membership requests. They mention that core functionality for this is planned, but if it’s not satisfactory, they might consider moving to a different platform.
/pfaffman estimates that developing a plugin to allow access to groups only for those in a particular group could cost between $1000-3000, depending on features and testing.
