Is it possible for me to create my Discourse forum using another existing Discourse forum as a template?
Hi there,
Is this a site you have a backup of or admin for? If so, you can create and restore a backup to your new site. Otherwise, there isn’t really a way to “duplicate” a site without direct admin access.
Hi there, in what way do you mean “template”? In themes and components? Plugins? Aesthetics? You can find common themes, components and plugins in Customization > Theme, Customization > Theme component and Customization > Plugin respectively.
Well, I admire the way the Zorin Forum is laid out. But I don’t have administrative access to it, so I guess that answers that question. Thanks.
In that case I would recommend checking out Customization as @NateDhaliwal suggested because you might be able to find their plugins and themes with a bit of poking around!
Thanks for that information also. I guess I was hoping there might be a way to adapt someone else’s layout to my own purposes without having to do all the setup myself. As if it was possible to create a recipe of a site that could be used for a declarative installation.
Not really. I’m looking at the site, and I believe their theme is custom. I may be mistaken, but here are some of the plugins they are using:
They also use the deprecated Advanced Search Banner.
I also see that they’re on a pretty old version (3.5.0.beta3-dev), perhaps because they want to avoid the deprecation, but I doubt it, because the deprecation was announced around 6 months after that version was released.
