How can I install the default Discourse theme? Is there a link to it on the forums/website?
I really like these icons:
In a support thread titled “Default theme on existing install,” user haydenjames seeks to replicate the visual style (icons and color scheme) shown in a screenshot, particularly the WCAG light palette and default Discourse icons. bob_the_tomato shares a link to a meta post about the new default theme, while Mike_Taku explains how to install the default theme via Admin > Customize > Themes. Lilly clarifies that the icons are standard Discourse icons, and avatar icons in the menu are controlled by a site setting — which haydenjames confirms resolves their issue. Later, haydenjames reports being unable to delete unused color palettes, even after unselecting them. Don suggests this may be due to a remote theme, and recommends either modifying the theme’s about.json or disabling unwanted schemes. Lilly advises duplicating and customizing a scheme instead of deleting, noting that even remote themes allow color scheme changes. haydenjames confirms they’ve duplicated schemes but still can’t delete the unused ones, joking about OCD frustration. The thread concludes without a direct solution for deletion, but emphasizes workarounds via duplication and customization.
I’m not exactly sure if this is what you are looking for, but maybe it’ll help you??
I guess I’m looking even just for the icons and scheme in the screenshot I included. How can I get colors and icons close to that?
I think if you want to install the default Discourse theme, log in as an admin and go to Admin, Customize, and Themes. Select Install and choose Default from the list. Once installed, set it as the default, and you’re all set! You can also add custom tweaks with theme components if desired.
Thank You,
Mike Taku.
I think you are asking about the color scheme here, not the theme. It’s the WCAG light color palette. You can use it with different themes as long as you make the color scheme selectable.
The icons are just the default Discourse icons used everywhere. If by icons, you mean the avatars in the menu, those are controlled by this admin site-setting:

Did that change from:
enable_new_notifications_menu?
answer: yes it did ![]()
I think that’s because it comes from a remote theme. If it’s your theme then you can change/remove color scheme in the theme about.json file.
Or you can disable these and add custom color schemes to the theme in admin.
If it’s not your theme and you want to remove it then I think it’s only possible with removing the theme.
you should be able to just duplicate that scheme, then make what changes you want to it, and then change the color scheme to your new one in the theme color palette field. (I know your forum isn’t using selectable dark/light schemes). even if a theme is remote, you can still change the color scheme it is using. you shouldn’t need to delete an existing color scheme. looks like you’ve duplicated it a few times though.
Yes, I tried to duplicate, but then I can’t delete the unused. It’s killing my OCD just watching them sit there. haha
