Just upgraded to Discourse 3.5.0.beta2-dev (ad992d7b2d).
Some unusual behaviour with user avatars, perhaps maybe only on new users, I’m still testing the scope of the issue.
Standard letter-based avatars appear correctly in various menus and category lists:
But when I click on one of the users to view their profile no image is loaded:
Then after 10 seconds or so, this icon appears:
User card is also blank:
I can replicate here on Meta too.

I don’t think so. You are not using DiscourseConnect; the letter-based avatars are image-generated by Discourse and you’re not using CDN on avatars.
Are you still able to reproduce it here or on your forum?
No, none of our team can, it went away as strangely as it arrived
