The share button on the post actions has been outfitted with new functionality: it will now copy the url of a post directly unto your clipboard, skipping the original share modal.
The regular share modal can still be used by clicking on the post timestamp:

One reason for the link dialogue was to be able to edit out the referring username if you preferred?
Does this new flavour default referrer username included?

Yes it does atm, but could be easy to solve. What’s the concern that it’s included?

I have no concern whatsoever, but it came up … let me see if I can link
EDIT:
Say, when I copy a link, seems to have my name at the end:
meta.discourse.org/t/ … 724/6?u=jidanni
But I’m thinking if that link gets passed around all over the Internet, then people will remember me forever or something. I’m not sure the exact goal of putting my name at the back of the link. Maybe it’s to earn me prizes or something?
Seems like a preference option is in order to disable that. That will save me a lot of time cleaning it up each time.
Just like with cell phone cameras, they do…
Personally I prefer this mild “tracking”.

I have no strong objections either for or against, but based on that other topic, I would say the decision of having it as a per-user setting or anything else relating to it, probably exceeds this small component. Meaning, I’d prefer this component to do what is expected based on the site settings and possibly on the future user setting.

Agree. Personally just needed clarification. I’m glad the feature is bundled.

I suspect @Moin will be delighted by this component

2 posts were split to a new topic: How to enable CopyLink?
This is now a core feature.
