Hi
It’s amazing to see how the Discourse Calendar and Events is turning out to be as a whole technical solution with all the nice and new features. This is a feature request to add webhook triggers & automation options for the events.
Webhook Event triggers - request
In the webhook triggers, we currently only have triggers for the calendar:
Triggers Calendar Event:
Calendar event is created
Calendar event is updated
Calendar event is destroyed
The feature request is to have something similar for the Events:
Event:
User going
User not going
User interested
User Participation Summary (after an event concludes, if it’s possible to get a summary for user’s participation such as total time spent during the event) ← would be a huge help.
These webhook events will help us send follow-up emails using our email platform, integrate with the other external tools we are using, and the ‘user participation summary’ will help us grant badges depending on attendance. There might be other ideas but these are the main ones.
Automation Triggers
The main ones that will be quite helpful right now would be:
- Send pms trigger, when user interacts with the attendance buttons
- Send a chat message in the relevant chat channel. It would be nice if we can automatically welcome people in the chat channel when they join the event. (currently there is an ‘event started’ which is great too!)
- The ‘chat-integration’ & ‘slack-channel’ messages are super cool and if we could add Event triggers to those (user joined event…etc) would be very helpful!
- Add user to group through event… this one is quite helpful; for example, we can automatically add the people who attend the developer meetup to a group.
- Unpin event topic: if an event ends in a pinned topic, unpin the topic automatically (very helpful so we don’t have to do that manually each time
)
I might have asked for many things here but the main idea here is a request for Discourse team to consider looking into automations and triggers for the Calendar & Events plugin.
I hope this is helpful for all. Thank you!
