This thread discusses the Discourse Discord Widget, a theme component developed by Pavilion to integrate Discord widgets into Discourse forums 1. The component, based on prior work by @dax, allows for easy installation and configuration 1.
Users reported and resolved several issues. AquaL1te noted that leaving require_groups empty prevented the widget from displaying, a bug that keegan fixed by making the setting optional 3. The community also addressed compatibility with upcoming header changes 5; Arkshine submitted a PR to update the component, which was subsequently merged 8.
Regarding production usage, jeffbyrnes confirmed the widget works well but encountered a bug tracked in issue #411. Additionally, keegan requested assistance merging a pending PR (#5) after leaving Pavilion, which angus successfully completed 14. The discussion concludes with confirmation that previous issues have been resolved 16.
If I leave the require_groups empty, it doesn’t show up. But when I put trust_level_0 in there it does work. Am I doing this right or wrong? Why would the require_groups be filled in, why not just always show it?
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Sorry, there was a minor bug in the code. I’ve resolved it, making the require_groups setting optional. If you update the theme this issue should no longer exist.
Is this slated for an update to meet the new header specs?
I tried a naive fix on my own (still using the old script, pre theme-component days) and failed egregiously on a first pass. I figured I’d pop in here to see what’s going on before taking another swing at it.
Hi - this Widget looks really interesting and amazing. I was thinking about using this to better integrate the two communities. Does anyone have any feedback on how this is operating in production and any trends from their community?
