Discourse-encrypt - Unable to see close message

AI-generated summary

saj reported an issue with Discourse-encrypt where they are unable to see the close message after closing an encrypted topic. They can view the original post and replies, but the close message is hidden behind an “This is a secret message with end to end encryption” message, despite being the topic creator. To reproduce the issue, saj provided a step-by-step guide: create an encrypted message, close it, edit the close message, and save.

After closing a topic, I sometimes like to edit the ‘close message’ to provide readers with an explanation of why the topic was closed. This works just fine with vanilla topics and messages, however I just noticed a bad interaction with discourse-encrypt:

Text for the benefit of search:

This is a secret message with end to end encryption. To view it, you must be invited to this topic.

I created the topic. I can see the OP and all replies. Just not the final close message.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create a new encrypted message. For the sake of testing, you can address the message only to yourself, however the problem is also evident on messages that are addressed to a larger set of people.
  2. Close the message.
  3. Click the pencil icon on the close transaction.
  4. Type a close message and save.
