The problem arises after the notices are read and are no longer active within the user’s Discourse account—the badge on the web app icon doesn’t update and continues to show the accumulated count of past notifications.

Where exactly are you having this issue?

On Android, there is no count, but a mere indicator of existing pending OS level notifications related to the PWA.

As you can see above, after dismissing notifications the indicator is cleared.
