Install this theme component
Note - this theme component assumes you at least have the Topic List Excerpts component installed. Enabling AI summary gists is optional, but this component is intended to work with both.
Overview
This theme component combines the Discourse AI summary gists button, and the Topic List Excerpts button to make the three topic list view options more convenient for users with a one-button solution.
It can also be used without AI summaries for just default compact and excerpts to provide a better UX, since the Topic Lists Excerpts toggle disappears by default in mobile-sized viewport.
The component also includes a new button icon for Topic List Excerpts.
Settings
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
Show labels |
Enable or disable the button labels in desktop and tablet viewport sizes, and the drop down options always show the labels in desktop. Mobile always just shows icons. |
Screenshots
Default Admin settings
Administrators can chose to show a text label on desktop, as well as edit the button label strings.
User Experience
With default text labels and compact selected.
Topic list excerpts selected.
With Show_labels disabled and selecting AI topic summary gists (labels still show on the dropdown buttons on desktop).
No AI? No problem!
AI summary gists turned off (AI_summary_gists_enabled disabled, or Discourse AI not configured) and only Topic List Excerpts being used. Also some shortened button labels (see text strings in settings).
Mobile
Button is default icon-only and menu behaves same as gists button, popping up from the bottom of screen.
Use Cases & Features
- Give your users a more intuitive UX to choose between compact, AI summary gists, and topic excerpts, rather than 2 buttons in different places.
- Improved mobile experience with topic excerpts, since button is always visible.
- Can be used without AI summarizing enabled; if Discourse AI setting
AI_summary_gists_enabledis disabled (or AI not configured), then gists option will not show on button.
Possible Future Todos
- Category or Group exclusion?
- Move category and tag badges to bottom in topic excerpt cards?
Note
This was a collaborative project with @Moin, and she created the Topic List Excerpts icon.
