Which free mail servers can be used for Discourse? I’m looking for recommendations. I tried QQ and 163, but neither worked.
Hi,
I use Brevo, with up to 300 emails per day, which I find sufficiently adequate for the needs of most small-scale forums.
If your forum is larger than this, host your own email server would be a better choice.
Hello,
I tried to telnet to Brevo’s port 587 on my Ubuntu server, but I couldn’t connect. My server is located in Hong Kong, and all my server ports are open.
May i ask what VPS provider are you using?
I am using a YuCloud VPS ![]()
I can’t comment for YuCloud, but i haven’t experienced Brevo over port 587 with Digital Ocean.
Thanks, the port was changed from 587 to 2525 and telnet is now successful.
When testing the mail server in the Discourse admin control panel, it was sent but the email was not received. Below are the logs in Brevo. Clicking on details returns a 404. Do you have a solution?
connect to your server by SSH, to copy the results from ./discourse-doctor
Are there any email errors in /logs of your forum, or maybe Bounced emails?

You can test it with https://www.mail-tester.com/ according to its instructions.
If it receives it and reports a high score, it means that for most email service providers, your email is very likely to be spam. Different email service providers may put it in the spam folder or even reject it.
If it doesn’t receive it, it means there is a problem with your email sending configuration.
Thank you everyone, emails can now be sent out because Brevo requires domain and sender configuration, as well as the setup of some DNS records.
