Under Discourse version 3.5.1, can a newly installed Discourse not send verification emails using NetEase Mail?

It is supported; testing via a third-party email service confirms successful sending.

Configuring SMTP on Discourse is probably the thing that trips people up most when installing. Two things to remember.

  1. If your hosting provider (not email provider), has the necessary SMTP ports open outbound. 25 is blocked on a LOT of hosts, with 587 being the preferred port.
  2. To ensure deliverability, you need/should have appropriate DKIM/SPF records configured, or you may run into issues with gmail/hotmail/yahoo, etc.
