If I had to pick a forum framework, I’d still choose Discourse!

My forum website was previously built using Flarum. In early June, I made a decision: to migrate to the Discourse framework.

I had previously rented a server to test out this forum framework and found that the mobile UX was even better than Flarum’s. The reason I hadn’t migrated before was the high annual cost. Now that I’ve moved, the experience has improved significantly; the AI features mean I no longer have to worry about content safety or translation issues.

So, if I were to choose a forum framework to start a forum, I would still choose Discourse!

What do you mean exactly by that?

Notwithstanding the fact that your community seem very small (in term of participating users), having administered the same forum both on Flarum and Discourse, do you miss any Flarum feature? What Discourse feature do you find the most attractive compared to Flarum?

Fine…

I really miss a Flarum plugin called GeoIP, which allowed Flarum to publicly display users’ IP locations. However, Discourse only supports MaxMind’s database. Since MaxMind’s database identifies IP addresses from mainland China as unknown, I hope support for other IP geolocation databases (such as ipdata or ip-api) can be added.

Additionally, Discourse’s AI moderation tools are a huge temptation for me, as they can significantly reduce the moderation burden on administrators…
