Hey.. I am working in reorganization of the forum to align this to new organization structure of my company. So far, and for many years we did not need to change our category names but now I need to rename some of them. I read about how to do it and it says edit the Admin > Category > change the name >save and it should work because new permalinks are created to the “old-name” category. But I have some questions because my change is going directly to Production, so I would like to know what to expect:
Should I change “Category-slug”? If I don’t it is not aligned with the new “category name”.
I have restricted access to categories, security and restrictions keep the same?
Think of the category name as what the browser displays on the page and the slug is what is in the URL. Ultimately, as long as the category ID is the same, the link will go to the right place even if the slug is outdated.
This is the actual URL for the support topic
https://meta.discourse.org/c/support/6
And this will redirect you back to category #6, regardless of the slug:
Ok, my question is: should I change the category-slug when renaming a Category? my thoughts are that “category-slug” is a kind of ID and if I change this the renamed Category could lose the topics and posts and shows up an empty category and I don’t want that. I just need to rename the category.
