The discussion revolves around the behavior of the last seen timestamp when an admin impersonates a user in Discourse. Sander78 highlights that impersonation updates the user’s last seen time, which can be misleading since the admin, not the actual user, is active. Sam agrees, noting this is useful for diagnostics. Tobiaseigen confirms the issue persists since 2013 and links to a related topic, emphasizing the impact on user lists and online status. Moin references a prior feature request on the same topic, and Tobiaseigen directs to a more recent discussion, indicating ongoing interest in resolving this behavior.
When - as an admin - you impersonate a user, their last seen is updated. That is of course because you completely impersonate the user as if he were behind the keyboard.
But… you’re not the user. You might use that option to quickly check something from the point of view of the user.
So, is it possible to skip updating the last seen? And maybe there are other things that should not be updated when logged in through the admin account.
