Edge case: Mismatch between interface language and content translation language

I noticed an edge case where the language selected in the header and the language of the content translation didn’t match. The dropdown at the top said “EN”, the Discourse interface and the category names were in English, but tags, topic titles, and excerpts were in German.

Steps to reproduce:
0. Set the language of your browser to English.

  1. Open Meta in a private window → It’s expected to be in English.
  2. Open a new tab and in that change the language in the header dropdown to something else, like German.
  3. In the first tab: Navigate to another topic list like hot or a topic.
  4. Notice that some parts are in German now while others are still in English.
