Editing site text in single-line text field on iOS

Continuing the discussion from "There is 1 unread and 4 new topics remaining, or browse other topics in …":

I’m not sure whether you would call a bug or a UX request, but when editing site texts on the Discourse Hub iOS app it they are in a one-line text field no matter how long they are. This isn’t workable. A text area would be better.

Are you referring to this input?

After that page you get to the place where you can edit the wording.

On the computer it can be stretched from the bottom right, but on the phone it just remains a single line – unless there’s a trick I haven’t found.

Will you be able to share a screenshot of the text field as it isn’t clear to me which text field we are referring to here. Thank you!

Feels a bit like UX to me.

Any page like /admin/customize/site_texts/education.new-topic?locale=en_GB.

I’ve noticed that on iOS Safari the single-line text box expands to a full text area. I haven’t worked out yet whether this is from some action or just a delay. But on the Hub app it remained single line.

It’s probably fairer to call it two-line. One line appears but when you scroll it shows two.

Hello @Jonathan5, following up here. Sorry for the time in getting back to you regarding this issue with the HUB app.

Are you still able to reproduce this issue?
Would you mind providing a screenshot of the short textarea, your iOS version and which device you are using?

There were some related issues with iOS’s 26 update, which could potentially be the cause.

The issue may potentially resolve if you are updated to iOS 26.1, please let us know and thank you for your report!

iOS 18.6.2 now.

I’ll try again when I get a chance.

Thanks.
