Hello how can I change the From field in the emails to match the name of my community (or at least include the name of my community so recipients know who it’s from)? Currently, in the From field for the login code email and the password reset email it just says from Discourse.

Multimastery asked how to customize the ‘From’ field in login code and password reset emails to display the community name instead of just “Discourse.” NateDhaliwal suggested checking the email subject settings, but Multimastery confirmed the variable %{site_name} was already present yet did not affect those specific authentication emails. supermathie recommended checking notification_email and email_site_title, but Multimastery noted these were already configured correctly for their community.
NateDhaliwal explained that because the user is on the free plan, email configurations are pre-set and cannot be changed. Multimastery shared a screenshot showing the ‘From’ field displays “Discourse ID” and argued that this generic label causes confusion, requesting co-branding or the community name for clarity. NateDhaliwal clarified that “Discourse ID” is the centralized authentication system managed by Discourse, not the user’s specific forum, and confirmed the behavior on a test demo. He suggested this is a feature request rather than a configuration issue.
Supermathie elaborated that the confusion stems from the fact that these emails originate from the Discourse ID service, not the forum itself. They proposed that improved copy explaining the connection between Discourse ID authentication and forum login might help, noting that users expect these emails when authenticating. Multimastery then asked how to convert the topic into a formal feature request, which NateDhaliwal completed for them.
Why not include %{site_name} in the email subject setting?
I checked Email settings–Email subject and %{site_name} is already there, but for emails like the login code and password reset email, it not including it at all.
Look for the notification_email and email_site_title site settings.
It’s already set as my community. It’s the same issue that I described with those particular emails. I’m sure you can test this on your end. BTW I’m on the free plan.
Since you’re on the free plan, email should be preconfigured already and you cannot change it, I believe. Can you send a screenshot of what you’re seeing? Perhaps there is a workaround.
I think I’ve been pretty clear about the issue, but I’ve attached a small screenshot.
Issue: The ‘From’ field for the login code and password reset emails only show as from: Discourse ID.
Free or not, the name of my community should show - or there should at least be some type of co-branding (similar to the free subdomain). Furthermore, email recipients could easily get confused about where the emails are generating from with something generic as From: Discourse ID
Discourse ID is the auth system managed by Discourse, available at id.discourse.com, and is not just your forum. I tested a demo email on a free forum, and yes, I see what you mean. This seems more of a Feature topic IMO.
Yes, but therein lies the confusion: These emails are not coming from your forum.
(as Nate points out)
It sounds like the feature request is for the email from ID to mention your forum as the reason for the login request?
I can’t speak to the likelihood of that, but maybe more detailed copy here might help?
I’m not even sure about that as the user has just tried to log in to Discourse ID, so they should be expecting this email.
You’re being sent this email as you are attempting to authenticate to Discourse ID so that you can log into a forum that uses it.
How can I change/move this to a feature topic?
I have already done so for you.
