Email Notifications for Forum Posts or Replies

Is it possible for users to receive an email when someone posts or replies to a post?

Yes. As a user, you can configure what emails you want to receive by going to /my/preferences/email.

Can you be more specific? Is that on the back end of the forum? Can you send an example of the full URL, please? I tried to add it to the https://XXX.associationsphere.network/ URL at the end but it didn’t work.

My apologies, I misspelt email instead of emails.

For meta, this would be: https://meta.discourse.org/my/preferences/emails

Hi Sharon – you can also navigate to your preferences by clicking: your user avatar → the user-shaped icon at the bottom of the popup menu → Preferences.

In Preferences you’ll see settings tabs for Email and Notifications.

Also note that each topic has an individual Tracking setting you can change, overriding your general settings:

Combining these settings to your liking can help make sure you don’t miss anything.

Hi again, just making sure that these settings are being applied to our AssociationSphere forum, and not the Discourse forum. We were told that our AS forum could send email notification for new posts, replies, and tags. Thanks.

Those are settings that should be available for your personal account on any Discourse site – with the exception that the new free hosted plan has some notification limitations I’m not entirely familiar with.

Are you asking from the perspective of an individual user, or are you concerned with admin settings that affect the defaults for all forum users?

Great, thank you!! And yes to both – we want our end users to be able to receive email notifications…. Is there a way to affect those default setting, so we don’t have to send out instructions?

Yes – you’ll want to see Configuring Default Notification Settings for Users.

Also note that users can override defaults with their personal preferences, as covered in Understanding Discourse for new users.
