Hi, equations cannot be rendered inside the “details” tag when using the MathJax engine. Like this
[details="Summary"]
$a \times b = c$
[/details]
Could you take a look at this problem?
The issue of MathJax equations failing to render inside [details] tags was reported by KickaStone, who provided a test case. sam confirmed the issue is now fixed, demonstrating a working example. Ethsim2 noted the fix was implemented long ago via a PR and suggested the reporter may have been on an outdated instance. Moin challenged this, pointing out the report was made in 2024 and the raw data reflects updated_at, not created_at. Ethsim2 acknowledged the confusion, explaining that /raw/<topic_id> displays updated_at, making older posts appear recent. They proposed clarifying the timestamp behavior—either switching to created_at, labeling it as “updated”, or showing both—and offered to draft a PR once consensus is reached. The core issue is resolved; the remaining discussion centers on improving timestamp transparency in raw topic views.

It is fixed now ![]()
a \times b = c
Yep - this was already fixed quite a while ago ![]()
The MathJax-inside-[details] issue was resolved by
That change has been in place for a long time, which is why Sam’s example now renders correctly.
Looks like this report just hit an instance that hadn’t updated yet - all good now.
Well, the report was written in 2024. There was no fix back then. Why do you assume they haven’t updated since?
Because https://meta.discourse.org/raw/393640 says the report was made this year
It says the post was last updated today (which makes sense. I have added a tag). The date in the raw is updated_at not created_at
Yep, agreed - thanks for confirming.
The confusion comes from /raw/<topic_id> using updated_at in the header, which makes historical reports look “newer” than they are.
I think the real question is whether /raw/<topic_id> should:
created_at instead, orHappy to put together a small PR once there’s agreement on which behaviour is preferred.
