Yeah, that’s because we proxy them in order to deal with ‘unknown’ size (the “120” in your URL) and whatnot. https://github.com/discourse/discourse/blob/master/app/controllers/user_avatars_controller.rb#L75-L120

I’m afraid I don’t have any personal experience of this issue though. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly.
