Vertex is limited to a handful of domains, it is not a suitable alternative.
We are researching all possible alternatives, and will ship new search tools using other providers soon.
Since every one of the big LLM providers also ship a native tool for web search, another thing we are planning is how to support those. So people using Gemini, for example, can enable it’s baked in search.
