Hide category from latest

I would like to learn, if How to hide topics of multi categories and their all sub-categories from latest page is still not possible?

Context: I would like to try to talk about machines / tools in one category, which should be publicly visible to users but not capture the “latest” view.

Side note: 10 year old open feature requests could be replaced / enhanced with a summary of current state.

Have you checked the default categories muted site setting? Categories defined there will have their topics excluded from the /latest page.

Ah. I tried this, but only with moderator accounts.

For non-moderator accounts, it is working as you describe.

So at least for moderators it seems not possible to keep latest silent of updates in muted categories?

That doesn’t sound correct to me. The default_categories_muted setting applies to all users as a default preference, but individual users (both staff and non-staff) can override this if they adjust their personal notification settings for muted categories.

Thank you. It works as you describe.
Apologies, I can’t reproduce my earlier findings.

A muted category will not be shown in /categories and in the parent category. I can live with that, since it is still possible to link to it via # and topics within it will be shown via search.

Totally cool – glad you’ve got what you need.
