How do I archive (or close) a topic without bumping it?

Continuing the discussion from Unlisted topics: Making them more useful:

I’m trying to edit an expired event and how it has bumped back up to the top of recent topics because I attempted to archive. Not my intention. How can I silently archive an expired topic without bumping it?

This is a after the fact way around it.

Click the wrench icon at the bottom of a thread and then click “reset bump date”.

This will return it to where it was in “latest” before you edited it.
