How do I get the dashboard to show this months info?

Hi,

I noticed that since 1 month lapsed on my free discourse hosted site, the dashboard changed as you’d expect but instead of showing this month so far it shows last month’s emails and pageviews which I don’t need to know anymore.

How can I get it to display this months emails sent / pageviews?

I always thought “last month” referred to within the last month.

And it matches the number in the report at /admin/reports/emails quite well. When I change the time span of the report to February, the number of emails is way higher than the one on the dashboard (the forum was rather quiet in the past weeks).

“Last month” is commonly read – in the US at least – as referring to the previous calendar month, not the current one.

Assuming this measures the current month’s usage, it seems confusion could be avoided by labeling it “Emails sent this month.”

I am not sure “emails send this month” is more helpful

I think it measures the past X days. If it were showing the number of emails within February, the number would not change at all. But when an email is sent, the number increases.
If the number referred to March (this month) it would not decrease because emails sent would only add up. But today I see 4 fewer emails than yesterday, when Ondrej asked. That number perfectly matches the number in the “emails sent” report for the 30 days.

Hm. If that’s the case, then “Emails sent in past 30 days” would make a clear label.

Is that a helpful figure for the user, though? If I was on the free plan which allows 20k emails per month, I think I’d mainly want to know if I’m getting close to the monthly limit.

One way I think about this is the Leaderboard in gamification. The last ‘month’ is actually the last 30 days, not from the 1st of the current month.

How does this number not help you with that? Isn’t it even more helpful to see how many emails were sent in the past 30 days? On the third day of a month, that number tells you how much you need this month if the rest of the month is like last month. If you only see how many emails were sent in those 3 days, that requires more thinking about what this will result in. Of course the emails sent in the past month are not always a perfect assumption for that, but pretty helpful for a quick overview.

The Leaderboard makes that real obvious, though, by displaying the date range:

Ah, I see your point, thanks. I was fixed on the idea of a monthly meter, not a rolling measure of activity like the Leaderboard.
