When a mod or tl4 flags someone, that person can get silenced and I was wondering how I would be able to disable the auto silence feature as it often results in people losing access to tl3 for very minor things. Thank you in advance!
There are some site settings that control the auto-silencing behavior based on flags:
-
num_users_to_silence_new_user- this is the number of unique flags it takes to silence a new tl0 user, set to 0 to disable -
silence_new_user_sensitivity- this is how likely a new user is to be silenced based on spam flags, you can disable this -
notify_mods_when_user_silenced- this will message moderators when a user is silenced, so it can make it easier to catch and unsilence someone if needed
I wouldn’t expect the new user silencing to affect users on TL3. And the last one won’t help with the TL progress either.
Which reasons do the mods and TL4 users select for their flags? I am not sure if it matters in this case, but I remember that for some features, flagging “spam” and “inappropriate” have more severe automatic consequences than other flags. In that case, a custom flag type might help. But it’s just an idea; I haven’t verified it.
oh right, for TL3 they shouldn’t be autosilenced…
so is a moderator agreeing with a flag that’s applying a silence in this case?
It is a tl4 that finds minor things that are technically wrong and flags the tl2s. The 6 months with no silences makes it impossible so a lighter punishment that doesn’t contribute to it would be a lot nicer. A custom flag would be cool but I’m not sure how you would do that.
Thank you for those! I changed some of their settings so it should be better now hopefully ![]()
That doesn’t mention whether they flag the post as spam, off-topic or something else, which is what I meant with the reson for the flag.
I believe it is usually off-topic
I am surprised that off topic flags result in users being silenced automatically.
