How to Understand the Request Revision Feature

It appears to be merely a “rejection with a reason,” and the system sends the reason to the user via a private message.
So, what does this sentence mean?

You can edit your topic’s original post below and re-submit to make the suggested changes, or reply to this message if you have any questions.

Currently, there is a process like this: a new user registers, triggering the first_post_typing_time setting. The system hides the post and sends it to the moderator for review, while simultaneously silencing the user.

The moderator, thinking that “Request Revision” means asking the user to revise their own content, fills in a reason and clicks the button (which automatically triggers “Unclaimed by …”).

At this point, the action is recorded as Post rejected .

The new user, seeing the text “You can edit your topic’s original post below,” mistakenly believes they need to edit that specific paragraph within the private message sent by the system. The moderator also assumes that once the user makes the revisions, the content will be re-submitted for review.

Subsequently, the moderator clicks Yes in the Moderator actions. The post then reappears normally in its original location, and the user’s silence is lifted.

However, the period between the Post rejected action and clicking Yes is purely an illusion—the user cannot edit the message sent by the system.

Even if editing were somehow possible, the revised content would not be re-submitted for review. Furthermore, the user’s replies can only be seen by the system. Because the user is silenced, they cannot post new content in the original topic, nor can they see their own original post.

Only after a moderator clicks Yes (the only option) in the Moderator actions does the replied-to post reappear as it was (Or specifically, the original state before being reported and hidden, without any edits having been made.).

Only then is the user’s silence lifted, allowing them to edit that post.

Is this an incomplete feature, or am I missing something?

Nice breakdown of a tricky issue.
You might also be interested in some brainstorming around this at Allow the ability to Edit post on rejection.

In fact, it was precisely by checking it that I realized that prompt was not meant to allow users to perform editing operations. :slightly_smiling_face:
However, the combination of the post becoming invisible to its author after being reported and the muting operation results in users being effectively unable to reply to new posts, leaving them incapable of taking any action before making modifications, which are currently not supported. Therefore, unless a moderator can find that private message and communicate, then approve the post to restore the original reported content exactly as it was, users will never be able to have their ban lifted. So this current process also leaves me confused—even though that feature is not yet supported, the current process is still not a smooth path.
