Our team had some images in our categories box to serve as icons for each category as well as an image on the hero section of the home page. These images are not showing anymore and when you upload a new one it says image cannot be displayed. Is this a discourse update missed or setting to address?
There is an issue where the photos and thumbnails on our community are not working but we did not do any changes to it recently. What could cause this?

Actually both. We host on a Linode and the backend team is checking whats up. However all images i.e. topic-list-thumbnails and Youtube preview thumbnails have all disappeared on the site.
Have you ever encountered this? One other item is that the viewing box to look at what your post looks like to there users has disappeared as well. So essentially you only see the left side of the post and no images for any links etc.
Have you changed the theme? On the horizon theme this is intentional.
