Introducing fast edit

AI-generated summary

A new feature called ‘fast edit’ has been introduced, allowing users to quickly edit small sections of a post with just a few clicks. A demo GIF is included to illustrate the functionality. The feature can be disabled via the site setting enable_fast_edit. It will fall back to the standard composer if the system cannot confidently determine the section to edit, and currently does not work with the discourse-encrypt plugin. Future improvements include adding keyboard shortcuts, which are now tracked in a separate topic. The feature was built by @Falco, @sam, @dan, @tgxworld, and @pmusaraj.

As of today it’s now possible to edit a small selection of a post in few clicks.

fast-edit

Can be disabled with the site setting: enable_fast_edit

Important:

  • If the code is not able to define with certainty which part of the post should be edited, it will fallback to open the composer.
  • It doesn’t work with discourse-encrypt ATM
