The discussion revolves around finding an E-commerce plugin for Discourse that integrates with Stripe for payment processing. oga initially asks if such a plugin exists, mentioning a client’s need for a “Market Place” feature. nathank suggests the Discourse Subscriptions plugin, which connects Stripe and group membership, but notes it’s not ideal for one-off purchases. oga confirms this, having already explored the Subscriptions plugin. pfaffman mentions starting work on a similar plugin but notes it’s still in progress and would require significant work to complete, particularly for two-way services like PayPal. When asked about updates, pfaffman reports no progress but expresses willingness to continue work if a budget is provided.
This connects Stripe and group membership, which can then be leveraged as you wish. However, this probably isn’t quite what you are after.
I don’t think that there is currently a plugin to do discrete (one-off) purchases via Stripe, but it sure would be helpful. We’d love it in order to accept payment for events, without having to do painful workarounds.
I started work on something like that. It counted on an external escrow service and staff to manage it manually (though it could theoretically be automated).
Integration with a two way service like PayPal, could be done, but it would be a fair amount of work. I’d think a week or two.
