satgo1546 reports a bug where the Jump to… button in the Change reply target dialog does not work. To reproduce, one must edit a reply, select Reply to another post from the Options menu, and then click Jump to… in the dialog’s lower-left corner. The button is unresponsive, making it difficult to select a specific post in large topics because scrolling the timeline precisely is impractical. satgo1546 expected the button to allow inputting a post number directly.
zogstrip acknowledges the report and confirms that the issue, along with other fixes, will be addressed in pull request #45412.
However, satgo1546 raises a concern regarding the proposed solution in the PR. They note that the timeline footer controls, including the Jump to… button, appear to be removed entirely from the reply target picker. satgo1546 suggests it would be preferable to retain the ability to jump to a specific post number, even if the interface changes, rather than removing the functionality altogether.
Imagine a topic with hundreds or thousands of replies. It is hard or even impossible to land precisely on the target post by scrolling the timeline. I thought the Jump to… button would allow me to set the target by number input, but unfortunately, it seems not working.
If I read it correctly, the timeline footer controls (including the Jump to button) will be removed entirely from the reply target picker after the proposed change. Wouldn’t it be better to allow users to jump to a specific post number, maybe in some other way?
