Let me see my number of unreads and tracked topics at a top level

Continuing the discussion from Introducing the unified new view for the topic list:

Please make the number of unread topics visible from the topic view page(s) like /latest (my home page). I really don’t care about the number of new topics; I care about the number of updates to topics that I’ve tracked… and really the tracked topics themselves!

I do think this is worthwhile for us to explore further and see what a next iteration might look like now that “unified new” had landed, which can give people who need it this kind of flexibility.

Maybe we end up with some small, simple, straightforward change that addresses this. If there’s an “obvious” solution, let’s certainly consider it first.

@awesomerobot I think you have the most context here. Not sure if that helps or hurts. But if you’ve got some ideas, I’d love to get them on the table.

I feel like I’ve personally become blind to what might be obvious for some reason. So if there’s an “obvious” answer here, it’s not apparent to me yet.

So I also think we should make space here to “go wide” in considering what change might best address this need if necessary.

That’d be awesome! Yes, I’ve been thinking along those lines, too. I wonder if what I really want is not a view of my tracked/watched topics (since those include tracked/watched categories), but rather my read topics. And then the number of normal/tracked/watched unreads becomes more obvious. Edit: Maybe. Kinda. It’s strange because a category-tracked topic might never have been read but will still have tracked unreads. :see_no_evil_monkey:
