pnorman reported a bug regarding the ‘incompatible browser’ notice in Discourse, where the link to learn more directs users to a meta.discourse.org topic that was initially suspected to be inaccessible on old browsers pnorman. NateDhaliwal questioned if the issue involved the separate ‘browsehappy.com’ link often found in unsupported browser banners, which points to a low-content site NateDhaliwal. However, pnorman clarified that the specific bug was the meta.discourse.org link itself failing on old browsers, arguing users should be directed to a page with no minimum requirements pnorman. Moin tested the link using Kiwi Browser and Firefox 115.27.0esr, demonstrating that the content was fully readable despite an ‘unsupported browser’ banner appearing at the top MoinMoin. david confirmed Moin’s findings, stating that Discourse topics remain accessible even with the banner, and requested specific browser details if the original reporter still faced issues david. Ultimately, pnorman confirmed that the community member in question could now read the content, indicating the issue was resolved pnorman.
Via a community member, this is a bug report for the notice about old browsers.
When viewing our Discourse with an old browser someone gets the message
Your browser will soon be incompatible with this community. To keep participating here, please upgrade your browser or learn more.
The link for viewing more about old browsers is Dropping iOS 15 & other old browsers in July 2025 . The bug is that this link doesn’t work in old browsers, so they’re being directed to a page we know they can’t read.
No - the bug is earlier, where a user on an old browser is directed to a link on meta.discourse.org that doesn’t work on an old browser. The user with an old browser should be directed to a page that has no minimum browser requirements.
If the link for “switch to a supported browser” is helpful or not is a different question and not part of this bug.
Yeah just confirming what @moin has demonstrated: as with any Discourse topic, the recent browser-support announcement is available to view in any browser. There will be an ‘unsupported browser’ banner at the top, but the content should still be there.
@pnorman if your community member is unable to read the content, please could you ask them for a screenshot, and precise browser version, so we can investigate?
