List of @mention names extends beyond the viewport on iOS

AI-generated summary

A bug in Discourse 3.5.0.beta8-dev causes the @mention autocomplete list to extend beyond the viewport on iOS and iPadOS, making it difficult to select usernames. Users Richie, david, JammyDodger, and twofoursixeight report the issue on iPhone and iPad devices, with screenshots showing the menu disappearing off-screen. kelv confirms the issue is resolved in the latest version, as the autocomplete menu now dynamically positions itself below the cursor based on available screen space, preventing it from going out of view.

Discourse 3.5.0.beta8-dev (79ff804509).

Apple iPhone 16 Pro, iOS 8.5, Safari.

Apple iPad Air 13, iPadOS 18.5, Safari.

I am unable to select the @username I want to mention when using iOS because the list of names disappears off the top of the screen.

This is compounded by the fact that Discourse is sooooo good at ordering the list of names with the name I want always being at the top, and therefore inaccessible

Here’s how it looks on iPad:

And the same on iOS:

We’re working on an overhaul of the ‘autocomplete’ system right now, so I’ll make sure we test that this problem is resolved as part of that. Thanks @Richie

This should be resolved in the latest version of Discourse - the autocomplete menu now opens based on whether the top segment or bottom segment of the screen from the cursor (if you imagine the cursor as a horizontal line dividing across your screen) has more space. So for the cases pictured here, you should expect it to appear below the cursor.
